Business Roundtable Urges the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to Advance the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024

Business Roundtable urges the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to advance the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024.

Business Roundtable is an association of more than 200 chief executive officers of America’s leading companies, representing every sector of the U.S. economy. We have long championed increased access to clean, reliable and affordable energy — including by accelerating new energy projects and incentivizing innovation and investment. Business Roundtable has also championed federal permitting reform that would enable expedited buildout of new energy infrastructure. That is why we support movement of your legislation through the Committee.

Business Roundtable strongly supports provisions of the bill that would:

• Take pragmatic steps toward shortening judicial review timelines for federal permits for energy and mineral projects;
• Provide greater certainty regarding leasing decisions for energy projects on federal lands, including offshore wind and oil and gas projects;
• Streamline environmental reviews for low-disturbance clean energy, electric grid and energy storage projects;
• Establish goals for offshore wind and clean energy development on federal onshore lands; and
• Streamline approval of new liquified natural gas export facilities and hydropower projects.

Business Roundtable CEOs look forward to working with the Committee on elements of this legislation, including provisions related to the siting of interstate transmission lines, as the bill makes its way through the Committee and onto the Senate floor.
